FCCLA’s January Monthly Meeting Written by Morgan Ward

On Wednesday, January 11, 2023, FCCLA had an after-school meeting. At this meeting, we discussed what we are putting in our GATFACS (GEORGIA ASSOCIATION OF TEACHERS OF FAMILY & CONSUMER SCIENCES) raffle basket. This raffle is held to raise funds for the FCCLA Foundation, which provides scholarships for students to attend National Competitions. Members decided to have the theme of travel for our basket this year. We researched items and ordered everything we needed to complete our basket. We discussed FCCLA day at the capital, which will be held on February 13. Seven FCCLA members will attend this day at the Capitol with Ms. Hartline. We also worked on our STAR projects. The STAR project is a leadership event that allows students to compete against other FCCLA members by practicing public speaking, developing interpersonal skills, building a portfolio/resume, and helping prepare students for real-world experiences. These projects are built by the passion of the specific student that consists of portfolios, speeches, trifold boards, extensive research, and lots of work put in by these students. Regions will be held on February 11th. We will be taking a total of 10 students to Regions at Ridgeland High School.

HOSA Fall Leadership Conference Written by Nivea London

On Monday, November 8th, HOSA students headed to Athens, Georgia, for their Fall Leadership Conference. They did a lot of different workshops with students from various schools across Georgia, got the chance to listen to Healthcare speakers, and even met up with some of their former HOSA members. This year HOSA got to bring members from the middle school. Some HOSA members competed in competitions too. Jaycee Ledbetter competed in Public Speaking. Faith Yoder competed in a Recruitment Competition. Although this trip was great fun, they faced some problems with the bus breaking down on the interstate. Desmond Evans stated, “This year was the best conference I have ever attended. Things went really smooth, it didn’t seem as crowded and the speaker, K.D. Wilson, was awesome. “ The next trip HOSA takes will be the State Leadership Conference in the spring; all HOSA members competing will get to do that. Mrs. Mcquese and the students said they had a great time at this year's FLC.

Chattooga HOSA Hosts American Red Cross Blood Drive written by Kaymin Calaway

On November 16, 2022, Chattooga High School's local HOSA chapter welcomed the American Red Cross Organization. The two partnered together to host a blood drive here at CHS. Several Chattooga High School students, teachers, and some of the Summerville community participated and donated blood. It is important to donate blood to help patients of all ages. Donating blood saves the lives of accident and burn victims, heart surgery or organ transplant patients, or even someone battling cancer who may need a blood transfusion. Chattooga High School rewards students who donate blood by giving out a cord at graduation if they are to donate three or more times. Cameron Carter, junior at CHS and president of the CHS Hosa chapter, stated, “The main reason we host blood drives here at the school is to help save lives because one donation is three lives that are being saved. We also like to give our HOSA members the experience of taking donors back and doing vital signs as well as letting them earn volunteer hours.” CHS Hosa and American Red Cross would like to inform you that another blood drive will be held at the Civic Center in Summerville on December 7, 2022, for those wanting to donate.
