On the last week of school before Christmas break, chorus and band students performed for the elementary and middle school students of the county during the annual Christmas tour of schools. On Wednesday, December 14th, both the band and the chorus began their day by performing at Lyerly School. They then traveled to Summerville Middle School and performed there. After a break for lunch they then finished out their day with a performance at Leroy Massey Elementary School. On Thursday, December 15th, marching band students visited Summerville Montessori School and played their Christmas Parade Sequence. After doing so, they met up with the chorus and both groups performed at PALS. After the performance at PALS, the chorus and band parted ways. The chorus then went caroling downtown and the band went to Oakview Nursing Home and the marching band played Christmas Parade Sequence. They then stopped for lunch and met together to finish out the tour with a performance at Menlo School. Olivia Millican said, “ The tour of schools is an amazing opportunity for aspiring musicians in band and chorus to travel and play for a bunch of different audiences, aswell as teach them the responsibility of being a musician.” Lexi Lemmings said, “I loved seeing all of the younger kids in out county. I hope as musicians we influenced them in a positive way, and brought joy to them during the holiday season.” The tour of schools is a great way to share the Christmas spirit and show off the hard work of these talented young musicians. We are proud to have them as part of our tribe.

I can’t wait to get started this upcoming week and get to meet our team, our students, as well as our community members.” Coach Gable was also asked what changes he planned on making as the new football head coach; he responded, “With any coaching change in any sport there will be changes but what I want to stress to our players is a team first approach.I believe the most important part about coaching is developing relationships. Creating a positive environment that our players want to be a part of. We will coach them hard and push them hard but at the end of the day we will love them hard and help them become the best men, husbands, fathers, and community members they can be.” Being the head coach offers new strategies and plans that will be introduced. Be a LifeSaver Written by Guest Reporter Launa Shaw

Imagine needing a life-saving organ and being told you may never receive one. Imagine the 100,000+ people on the waiting list suffering daily because their chance of receiving a transplant is uncertain. Every day an average of 22 people die waiting for a life-saving organ. This accounts for about 8,000 deaths yearly. Imagine if you or a loved one were in that position. Would you not want the chances of receiving a transplant to increase? This is why organ donors are so important. By becoming an organ donor, you can save lives and decrease the gap between the number of organs available and the number of people on the waiting list.
Organ donors are essential to many individuals in need of organ transplants. Many people don’t know how to register or are educated on organ donation. Registering is easy and can be done in multiple ways, such as saying yes to being an organ donor at the DMV, through the iPhone health app, through registration forms, or at donatelifegeorgia.org/register/. You can help spread awareness about organ donation as well. You are encouraged to do so. Educate yourself on organ donation, learn more about it and talk about it to others. Spread the word. Tell everyone about the importance of organ donors and encourage them to be lifesavers. Be an advocate for those in need of organ donations. Let them know that Chattooga County cares and that we are a community.
Know the importance of organ donation. Without organ donors, more people would be dying as a result. Register to be an organ donor, spread the word, and support each other. Check out organdonor.gov, Donate Life Georgia, and LifeLink Foundation to learn more. These are excellent resources to answer your questions and register to be an organ donor.

CHS Students Volunteer With The Home For The Holidays Event by Nivea London

On Thursday, November 18th, several students from FFA and Hosa went to help with the Home for the Holidays food drive. The students arrived at 10:30 to prepare for the event. Students assisted with packing bags full of food for families in need. Everyone at the event was happy to have the students volunteering. They helped the students understand what they needed to do to prepare the bags for the families. We spent the whole two and a half hours getting about one hundred bags of food ready for each family that came. The doors opened at 1:00, and the families were greeted by the volunteers. The students assisted with the food distribution. Each family was given a bag of food along with ham, water, and produce to families attending the event. The drive was a success, and the students were happy to be a part of such a good cause and help provide families with the food they need.
