Under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) all students with disabilities must participated in the State’s academic content standards. The Georgia Alternative Assessment 2.0 (GAA) is designed to ensure students with significant cognitive disabilities are provided access to the State content standards and given the opportunity to demonstrate progress toward achievement of the knowledge, content, and skills in the content standards.
ESSA places a 1 percent statewide cap on student participation in alternate assessments.
Chattooga County School District exceeds the 1 percent cap of GAA assessments for the school year 18-19. Several reasons being our district has a high number of special education students even though we are a small rural area. Many students in the special education program transfer into our district to specifically receive specialized services.
